Ingredients:
- 2 cups Masoor dal [red lentils]
- 1 large onion [fine chopped]
- 6 Garlic Cloves mashed
- 1 Tablespoon ginger mashed
- 2 Green Chilies
- 3-4 Tomatoes
- 1 Tablespoon Red Chili powder[Or to taste]
- 1 Tablespoon Coriander Powder
- 1/2 Tablespoon Cumin Powder
- 1 Tablespoon Salt [or to taste]
- 1 Tablespoon Garam Masala Powder
- 1/4 Cup Cooking Oil
Instructions:
- Rinse the lentils with fresh water
- Add water to a pot enough to cover lentils double the volume and bring to boil on high heat
- Once boiled for approx. 5 minutes remove any foam that comes to the top of water
- Lower the heat and let it cook for 15 minutes so it become tender
- In a separate pot on medium heat add the oil and light fry the onion until golden brown then add tomatoes, garlic and ginger paste
- Add half cup water and stir lightly while adding, Chili, Coriander, Cumin, Garam Masala powder, salt and green chili
- Cook for 5 to 10 minutes until water is dried out and gravy is left
- Bring in the lentils to the gravy, stir to combine them together
- Let it cook for 5 minutes
The lentils are ready to be served with pita bread or boiled rice.
